Pioneering cloud computing for Pakistani libraries
PASTIC is the pioneer of cloud computing in the field of library and information sciences in Pakistan. Cloud computing was first used during the development of PakCat (the Union Catalogue of Pakistani books), part of the PASTIC project titled “Modernization of PASTIC National Science Reference Library with Effective Resource Sharing,” dated 2 August 2017.
PASTIC customized the Koha library automation software for local needs in consultation with Pakistani library professionals. PASTIC held a meeting of library professionals under the Consortium of S&T and R&D Libraries of Pakistan on 18 October 2017, following the decision of consortium members.
